Nach den Erfolgsmusicals „Ku’damm 56“, „Ku’damm 59“, „Romeo & Julia – Liebe ist alles“ und zuletzt „DIE AMME“ wagen sich Peter Plate und Ulf Leo Sommer nun an ihr bislang persönlichstes Projekt: „WIR SIND AM LEBEN“ ist ihr erstes vollständig selbst entwickeltes Musical – eine Geschichte über Familie, Freiheit und das Lebensgefühl im Berlin der frühen 90er-Jahre.
Berlin, 1990. Das Jahr, das nicht nur eine Stadt, sondern auch das Leben der Geschwister Nina, Mario und ihrer Mutter Rosie komplett auf den Kopf stellt. Die Mauer ist gefallen, die Ordnung verschwunden – und das Chaos beginnt.
Die Zeit ist geprägt von Euphorie – und von Angst. Von Aufbruch – und von der alles überschattenden Realität von AIDS.
Doch „WIR SIND AM LEBEN“ ist kein reines Drama. Im Gegenteil. „Es wird sehr, sehr komisch“, sagt Plate. „Denn die 90er waren nicht nur traurig oder politisch – sie waren auch absurd, hemmungslos, zärtlich verrückt. Wir wollten das alles zeigen: die Traurigkeit und das Tanzen. Die Wut und die Wärme. Den Lärm und das Leise.“
